As some of you may know, in our clinic in London we now have a new laser: the CO2 laser.

This laser provided by the team and manufacturer INTERmedic is a 4th generation laser, which allows us to use it not only in the field of dermatology, but also in rejuvenation treatments or surgery. Thanks to this we have a wide range of possible treatments to perform.

But first, what exactly is this laser about?

The CO2 laser is a form of laser therapy that uses carbon dioxide to generate a highly concentrated beam of light, and therefore has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin, or even perform surgical tissue cutting if we use it at high power.

In terms of how it works, the laser emits pulses of energy-controlled light that penetrates the skin. This beam of light is selectively absorbed by the water in the skin cells, generating heat and vaporising the damaged or unwanted cells; in other words, the aged skin is eliminated, and as at the same time the production of collagen is stimulated, the regeneration of the skin is also promoted, improving its texture and general appearance.

When do we use it?

As we have already mentioned, our laser has a wide variety of possible treatments, but in the clinic we will mainly apply it in cases of:

  • Skin rejuvenation: it allows the reduction of wrinkles, fine lines and sun spots, leaving the skin looking smoother and firmer.
  • Treatment of scars: whether acne scars, surgical scars or hypertrophic scars, the CO2 laser can help minimise their appearance by stimulating collagen production and smoothing the skin’s texture.
  • Wart and mole removal: this laser can specifically target benign skin lesions, removing them safely and effectively.
  • Blemish treatment: thanks to this laser we achieve a more uniform and blemish-free skin. Doing it in the post-summer period is the most appropriate since we stop exposing ourselves to the sun so much and we will be able to obtain a more effective improvement.
  • Reduction of dilated pores: it can help to reduce the size of the pores, thus improving the general texture of the skin and reducing the appearance of oily skin.

If you are looking for an effective solution to improve the appearance of your skin, CO2 laser could be the answer you are looking for. However, it is always important to consult a specialist to determine if the CO2 laser is suitable for your skin, and bearing in mind that it is not suitable for people with very dark skin phototypes.
