HIFU Liftera
LONDON

Liftera HIFU technology in London is a new non-invasive treatment indicated to recover skin firmness and stimulate collagen production. It is recommended for patients who present signs of aging such as sagging, wrinkles, crow’s feet or drooping eyes. At De Felipe Dermatology Clinic we are the first to use this technique in London.

What is Liftera HIFU technology?

HIFU technology uses ultrasounds like those used in echography. However, they differ in two aspects: it is more convergent to concentrate the energy in a single point and uses different acoustic frequencies. The use of specific transducers centralizes energy at certain points at different depths so that, through heating, it promotes skin contraction and the production of collagen and elastin.

The increase in temperature causes fat to begin to break down so that it can then be eliminated naturally through our body. It should be noted that this technology can be used both on face and body.

Types of ultrasound treatments

There are two different types of treatments depending on the energy used:

HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

They are indicated for medical applications such as the non-surgical destruction of tumors. They use energies between 45 and 60 J/cm2 with a sound frequency of 2 MHz and a focal length between 1 and 2 cm deep. It is also used for localized fat destruction.

MFU (Microfocused Ultrasound)

It uses much lower energies, between 0.2 and 2 J/mm2 in the most superficial layers of the skin and with a sound frequency of 4-10 MHz. Despite providing less energy and being more superficial, it produces higher heating and specific in small spots of <1 mm.

HIFU Liftera treatment in London

The HIFU system used by the De Felipe Dermatology Clinic is Liftera.

What does Liftera consist of?

This unit, in addition to allowing an effective face lift and lift, eliminates harmonic sounds to heat only the depth desired by the doctor and thus respect the rest of the tissues. This reduces collateral damage and increases the comfort of the treatment.

The Liftera uses a large number of transducers to reach different depths:

  • 1.5 mm (middle dermis)
  • 3 mm (deep dermis)
  • 4.5 mm (SMAS or facial muscle aponeurosis)
  • 7 mm (fatty tissue)
  • 10 mm (deep fatty tissue in jowls or folds)

Liftera HIFU Applications

Liftera technology has different applications depending on the objective we want to achieve:

Eyebrow lift

Alam et al. published a study in 2010 in which the treatment was performed with two transducers. At 90 days, 86% of patients perceived a very significant improvement in their skin with a 1.7 mm lift in the eyebrow.

Neck and double chin lift

Kenkel et al. presented a study conducted on 70 individuals with neck sagging in 2013 at the ASLMS conference in Boston. They observed that 72% of treated patients experienced an improvement in their double chin of more than 20 mm2.

Sagging in the lower third of the face

Lee et al. described in the 2012 Dermatology Surgery that the use of two transducers used consecutively (3 mm and 4.5 mm) induced a more notable and lasting improvement in the patients’ mandibular profile.

HIFU Liftera before and after

The surveys carried out with our patients guarantee the professionalism of the medical staff and the success of the HIFU Liftera treatment. However, although we noticed an immediate change after the intervention, the improvement process is gradual and we will be able to see the definitive results after two weeks. To learn more details about this treatment, do not hesitate to make an appointment with an expert doctor. We will be happy to help you!

Frequently asked questions from our patients

These are the most frequently asked questions from our patients about HIFU Liftera:

The treatment lasts between 45 to 60 minutes. During this time, the areas to be treated, the types of transducers and the number of shots that we are going to use to obtain the tensioning effect are designed. Control photographs are also obtained before and after treatment.
Liftera sessions are done to treat sagging on the entire surface of the face, neck, neckline, arms, buttocks or fractions of these anatomical regions.

The Liftera is recommended when we begin to notice sagging skin but do not want to undergo surgery.

Patients with wounds or active infections in the skin, echogenic prostheses in the region to be treated, pacemakers in the heart or febrile states will not be suitable for the intervention.
No. The patient may only experience redness of the skin and a tingling sensation in the treated area.
