The skin is the largest organ in the human body and one of the most exposed. It plays a vital role in our health and well-being. Not only does it protect us from external factors, it also acts as a barrier against germs and helps regulate body temperature.

However, certain environmental aspects or genetics can break down the skin’s protective barrier, so we need to find the best way to protect and restore it, as this can make our skin more sensitive and prone to infection.

Identifying your skin type is the first step to establishing the right skincare routine. In our Instagram post this week, we explained how to identify your skin type, and in this blog we’ll give you some recommendations for each type.

Normal skin

  • Cleanse your skin twice a day with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and excess oil.
  • Apply a light moisturiser to keep your skin soft and supple.
  • Don’t forget to use sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days.

Oily skin

  • Cleanse twice daily with an astringent or sebaceous cleanser. The best sebum-regulating ingredient for oily skin is salicylic acid.
  • Use oil-free and non-comedogenic products to avoid clogging pores.
  • Exfoliate gently one to three times a week to remove dead skin cells and prevent clogging.

Dry skin

  • Choose gentle cleansers without alcohol or fragrances that can irritate the skin.
  • Use products rich in hyaluronic acid and ceramides to help restore the skin barrier.
  • Avoid hot baths and opt for lukewarm showers to prevent the skin from drying out further.
  • Don’t scrub while bathing or drying off.
  • Use a humidifier and make sure the temperature inside is not too high.
  • Wear gloves when using detergents, solvents or household cleaners.

Mixed skin

In this case, a combination of products is used for both dry and oily skin.

  • Cleanse the skin twice a day with a specific cleanser for mixed skin.
  • Apply a light moisturiser to the driest areas, avoiding the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) to prevent excess oil.
  • Use a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and prevent acne.
  • Avoid touching your face as this makes your skin more oily.
  • Use oil-free, non-comedogenic products to avoid clogging your pores.

Whatever your skin type, don’t forget to remove make-up and apply a toner after cleansing to tighten pores.

Sensitive skin

As we discussed in our Instagram post, any of the skin types above can also be sensitive skin.

  • Look for products without fragrances or dyes that can irritate the skin.
  • Use mineral sunscreens instead of chemical sunscreens to reduce irritation.
  • Do a patch test before using new products to check for possible allergic reactions.

Knowing your skin type and following a proper skin care routine can help prevent problems such as acne, dryness and sensitivity. Remember, in addition to following these recommendations, it’s important to consult your dermatologist or our beauty team to get the most out of your skincare routine and keep your skin healthy and glowing.
