Platelet Rich Plasma is an innovative autologous technique that is highly effective to activate stem cells and fight ageing, treat scars and stretch marks, stimulate hair growth and repair tissues and wounds. It also stimulates skin cells and the production of collagen and elastin. De Felipe Dermatology Clinic has a long experience in PRP treatments and the results of our patients speak by themselves.

What is PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma.

Platelets are the blood cells responsible for coagulation and for forming clots in wounds.

When we injure our skin, platelets form a clot that covers the wound. The skin must be repaired and, to obtain new cells, stem cells must replicate to create new young skin. Growth factors are needed to wake up and stimulate skin stem cells. Platelets contain many growth factors such as PDGF (Platelet Derived Growth Factor), EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) and FGF (Fibroblast Growth Factor), among others.

Why is PRP indicated in so many patients?

For many years, Orthopedic Surgery had tremendous difficulty in suturing tendons and joints. They began to use platelets derived from the patient’s blood to obtain growth factors and improve the repair of damaged or aged joints. Nowadays, PRP is a very common treatment in traumatology, stomatology, trichology and regenerative medicine.

PRP treatment in London

Atrophy of the underlaying tissues of the skin, loss of elasticity and collagen are very important events in ageing. PRP is specially indicated to reverse the effects of time and treat laxity, wrinkles and aged skin.

What is the PRP?

Platelet Rich Plasma treatment in London is based on the extraction of platelets from the patient’s own blood. These platelets have the ability to stimulate and accelerate cell regeneration.

The procedure of PRP:

  • First step: A patient’s blood sample is taken. About 30 ml of blood is enough.
  • Second step: Blood is centrifuged to separate red blood cells from plasma and platelets.
  • Platelet-rich plasma is withdrawn with a needle and syringe and activated with calcium carbonate or another stimulant to release growth factors.
  • Finally, it is injected with a needle, microneedling or with a cannula.
