Types of acne

Knowing the type of acne is essential to get the patient’s treatment right and achieve the desired results. The main types of acne are:

Adult Acne

Prevails from the age of 25 onwards. It is more common in women and is usually associated with hormonal changes or stress. It manifests around the mouth area or perioral areas of prolific papules accompanied by inflammation.

Hormonal Acne

Acne linked to hormonal changes. Seborrhoea is increased during periods of increased hormone secretion and can affect adults of any age. It is important to add medication to regulate this hormonal activity.

Comedonal Acne

This is the most characteristic lesion of acne. The increase in sebum secretion obstructs the follicular channel and favours the appearance of comedones. Microdermabrasion is essential to alleviate pore obstruction.

Sever nodular acne

Most severe form of acne. The large size of the sebaceous glands and the proliferation of bacteria play a major role. It also manifests itself in the form of purulent lesions with high capacity to develop scars.

Causes of acne in London

There are four main factors that cause acne:

  • Excess in sebum production
Pathological increase in the secretion of the skin’s sebaceous glands, accompanied by chronic inflammation that can lead to itching and erythema of the affected area. It is treated with laser 1340.
  • Follicle blockage
It happens because the epidermis or skin cover is fragile and thin. It does not exercise its barrier function well and water is easily lost, causing itching or discomfort to the skin. Microdermabrasion is the technique used to remove the most superficial layers.
  • Infection
Bacteria proliferation favoured by pore blockage. The most typical bacterium is called Propionibacterium acnes and causes itching and redness. We use blue light to destroy the bacteria.
  • Inflammation
This occurs when the hair follicles become infected with bacteria. Biological light therapy with red LED light (640 nm) calms the skin and causes skin regeneration.

Acne before and after

Some of our patients have given us permission to show the result of their acne treatment. We can guarantee that any patient who follows the treatment guidelines will have a result as satisfactory as the cases shown. As we have already mentioned, there is no point in manipulating the pimples or blackheads that appear, so if you make this mistake or have an acne problem, we advise you to make an appointment with one of our dermatologists.
