Neuromodulators are substances that inhibit communication between nerves and muscles, preventing their contraction.

In dermatology, it is nowadays a highly demanded procedure, both for facial rejuvenation and for the prevention of expression wrinkles, given that it is a non-surgical aesthetic treatment and, therefore, non-invasive and painless. It modulates muscle activity, improving wrinkles and preventing them from becoming fixed in the skin. Unlike other procedures, the neuromodulator does not inflate the face, providing a relaxed appearance and allowing the desired effect to be regulated.

This treatment has over 100 applications, from relaxing sweat glands to controlling hyperhidrosis, to improving bruxism and reducing migraines. In addition to its aesthetic use, it has been observed that it can have benefits in depression in some studies.

In the aesthetic field, as previously mentioned, it is ideal for treating expression wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows and crow’s feet, hyperhidrosis, bruxism, neck with very marked platysmal bands and neckline of Venus.

At the time of treatment, it is important that the patient’s face is washed and make-up is removed. The neuromodulator is injected into the muscles involved. The procedure is short, usually 15 minutes, and causes little discomfort. It is recommended to avoid rubbing the area, exposure to high temperatures, and sports for the first few hours after treatment.

It is also worth mentioning that the use of neuromodulators is compatible and can be combined with other treatments such as hyaluronic acid, facial mesotherapy, microneedling, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or revitalising peelings.

The result is not immediate, manifesting itself gradually over the following days, with the maximum visible effect after 14 days. The duration of the effect varies between 4 and 6 months, and it is advisable to repeat the treatment twice a year.

My philosophy with this treatment is to achieve a relaxed and natural look, moving the muscles between sessions to prevent atrophy. In short, the neuromodulator not only beautifies, but also prevents future ageing, being a versatile and safe option in the field of aesthetic medicine.
